Hi, Dear users of WordPress tooltip plugin, hope this message find you are doing well and having happy day with your family 🙂 3 weeks ago, we released WordPress tooltips pro plus 23.1.8 to support make wordpress tooltip focussable(WCAG2.0) . Based on an amazing wordpress tooltip user’s feature request:
“Hello! I am working on a website which needs to accessible (WCAG2.0). For example I want to access the tooltips with tab key. (esaenitaly :focus instead of :hover) Is this possible for me to change with free version? ”
What is WCAG2.0? WCAG 2.0 stands for “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.” It is a set of guidelines and standards developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) to make web content more accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities such as visual impairments and hearing impairments. These guidelines provide guidance to ensure websites and web applications are accessible, ensuring equal access for users across various devices and conditions. 🙂
Then we reported to the amazing user, because in HTML, tab index only support a few HTML tags, for example, a link, input text, select box…etc, so if we want to access the tooltips with tab key, we need an option to link tooltip terms to tooltip page automatically, that’s why we had to release wordpress tooltips free 8.9.1 to support link tooltip keyword to tooltip / glossary term page first, and then we can support tab index for all tooltip keywords in wordpress posts 🙂
Today we added the function of “accessible (WCAG2.0). … access the tooltips with tab key…” in wordpress tooltips free version 8.9.5. At the same time, we improved our old design based on a few users’ feedback, they told us, they need enable the option of “link tooltip terms to tooltips page”, then they can enable the option “Enable / Disable access tooltip with tab key”, they hope just enable the option “Enable / Disable access tooltip with tab key” in one time, do not need to do it in two steps, so in wordpress tooltips pro plus 23.7.8 / wordpress tooltips pro 17.6.6 and wordpress tooltips free 8.9.5, we improved the WCAG2.0 function to support access tooltips with tab key — in one option 🙂
How to make wordpress tooltip focussable(WCAG2.0)?
This is our document for wordpress tooltips pro plus, but it works well in wordpress tooltip free and tooltips pro version with the same options:
1: Download and install wordpress tooltips pro plus plugin , or upgrade wordpress tooltips free to the version 8.9.5
2: login wordpress as admin and click tooltips menu item,
3: After activate wordpress tooltips pro plus plugin, please click tooltips menu item in wordpress dashboard, the menu of wordpress tooltips pro plus looks like this:

4: wordpress tooltip free user please click global settings sub menu item, and wordpress tooltips pro user please click optional settings sub menu item, you will open wordpress tooltips settings panel, it looks like this:
Enable Disable access tooltip with tab key in wordpress tooltis pro plus 23.1.8
5: At the bottom of the wordpress tooltips plugin optional settings panel, there are new option: “enable / disable access tooltips with tab key”, if you enable access tooltips with tab key, then in the front-end,if the user keeps pressing the TAB KEY on the page, when the Tooltip term receives focus, the tooltip window will automatically pop up.
6: when the Tooltip term loses focus, the tooltip window will automatically hide.
