How to only list posts of specified category in post directory?

Hi, Dear  wordpress tooltip plugin users,  hope this message find you are doing well and having happy weekend with your family 🙂  A few hours before we released a new version of wordpress tooltip plugin, in which we added a new UI for wordpress tooltip directory panel, and we added post directory for wordpress tooltip free users. Then we get a tooltip user’s feedback, in which he told us, the function of the post directory is close to what he wants, he gave us two suggestions:

1: in [postdirectory] shortcode, allow users to set only the posts in the specified category to be displayed

2: allow users to to choose to display only the excerpt of the post as the content of the directory

Our wordpress tooltip developer think this is great feature request, we re-developed our wordpress post directory shortcode like this:

a: you can use [postdirectory] to display all wordpress posts in the directory

b: you can use [postdirectory catid='1'] to only display posts in the category that id = 1 (in general it is “uncategorized”)

c: you can use [postdirectory catid='38,1'] to only display posts in the category which id = 38 and category id = 1

You can find category id by this way:

1: login wordpress as admin

2: in wordpress dashboard, click posts menu item

3: click categories sub menu item

4: you will find wordpress listed all categories in here, please mouse hover any category, you will find the category link and in the link, there are “tag_ID=38”, then the category ID is 38

This is a great feature request, by this way, wordpress users do not need to display all wordpress posts in the directory, you can create a new category and add some import posts in this new category, then in front end, just insert the shortcode [postdirectory catid='38']  in wordpress post, then you will find the post directory only have posts under the specified category 🙂

And the user suggest we use excerpt as the content of post directory. Actually, we have this function already, you can use wordpress excerpt as the content of directory by this way:

1: login wordpress dashboard as admin

2: click tooltips men item

3: click glossary settings sub menu item, you will open glossary settings panel, it looks like this:

glossary custom panel in wordpress glossary 16.0.8

glossary custom panel in wordpress glossary 16.0.8

You can find there are option “glossary excerpt of full content?” , please select “use glossary excerpt in glossary pages”, then in wordpress post directory, wordpress tooltip plugin will use excerpt of the post as directory content 🙂

Hope this have a little help? If you need, we can add a new parameter “contentfrom=excpert” for wordpress post directory? Please just give us more guide about what you want 🙂

Since 2010, wordpress tooltips plugin is drive by user needs, if you have any more question of requirement, please don’t hesitate to tell us, we are happy to realize it for you. 🙂

We understand that some other users do not need this directory function, if you think we should add an option to hide the menu, please tell us too, we are happy to improve wordpress tooltip functions for users 🙂

And we are developing new functions for users based on wordpress tooltip user’s feedback, for example, we are adding AIGC tooltip for users, we hope you will see it soon, and we will improve the function of AI tooltip based on your feedback too. As you can see, once get the user’s suggestion, our developer worked overtime and stayed up late on weekends to complete the function for users 🙂

This change will affect wordpress tooltips pro + 19.3.8, tooltips pro 16.3.6. wordpress tooltips free 8.3.5 🙂

Thanks, have a blessed weekend with your family 🙂

Best Regards,
