How to import tooltips from a CSV file in WordPress and how to create a WordPress tooltip CSV file?

Then the  user kindly gave us the CSV file, our wordpress tooltip developer checked his CSV file, and we found a lot of formatting errors in the CSV file, it ‘s not a normal CSV file, for example, a record looks like this “都,””Tou,Deu / Cung”””, it should be “都”,”Tou,Deu / Cung”,  our developer rebuild the CSV file manually for the brother (408 tooltip terms), but we though  he might be a teacher of Vietnamese and Chinese, and he might need to make CSVs of Vietnamese and Chinese words again in the future, so we decided to write this detailed tutorial for all users who need to make CSV imports of wordpress tooltip plugins 🙂

How to Import WordPress Tooltip From Excel CSV File?

1: Please click the wordpress tooltip download  menu item in the top bar of wordpress tooltip site,  please  download latest  version of wordpress tooltip pro plus plugin

2: Upload the wordpress tooltip plugin (zip file) via plugins panel in your wordpress dashboard,  if you are new user of wordpress tooltip, please check our  video of how to install wordpress tooltip at:  WordPress Tooltips Video Tutorial 3: How to upload and activate wordpress tooltips pro plugin

3: Please log in to your WordPress site and navigate to the WordPress dashboard. From there, click on the “Tooltips” menu item, It looks like this:

4: Then click the “Import Tooltips” sub-menu item. This will open the “Import Tooltips” panel, it looks like this:

5: Please upload your csv file in “Your CSV File” upload section:

Click on “Choose File” button, select your CSV file to import,  then click the “Import” button, WordPress tooltips plugin will scan the csv file and create tooltip terms automatically, then give you a red link at the bottom of the import tooltip settings panel, just click the red link, you will open tooltips list, you will find new tooltip terms has been imported.

All tooltip list will be updated according to the content in the CSV file.

How to create a WordPress tooltip CSV file?

1: After downloaded wordpress tooltip plugin, you will find wordpress tooltip CSV sample file “sample.csv” contained in your wordpress tooltip Pro plugin folder: “tooltips-pro”. Open sample.csv in any spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel.

2: You can you can just follow our format to build your csv file, input your information in the “tooltips term” column and “tooltips content”column. “tooltips term” means tooltip keyword, “tooltips content” means the content in tooltip popup box.

3: In sample.csv, we use comma “,” to split fields, if you have comma (,) in your content field, it maybe caused the import failed, the solution is use double quotes (“) to warp your content field, it looks like this: “the world, need goods”

4: In general, #3 will works well, but in your tooltip content, maybe you have double quotes (“) already, in this case, because there are a lot of double quotes (“), so import will failed again, in this case, the solution will looks like this: “the world, \”need goods\””, just add \ before your own “, it will works well

5: If you want to add mages in your tooltips, that is easy, just do it like this: hi this is image import sample < img class=”alignnone size-medium wp-image-259″ src=”http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/yourimagenam.png” /> , just change class, image path, image name as your values.

6: You can import tooltips categories from csv file too, please check our samples in sample-category.csv in the folder “tooltips-pro”

In sample-category.csv, there are 3 fields, “tooltips term” and “tooltips content” and “tooltips category”, tooltips term will be imported as title of tooltips, and “tooltips content” will be imported as content of tooltips, “tooltips category” is tooltip category name

If you added a tooltip category name for a tooltip importing record, aftered the tooltip item be imported, we will assign the this tooltip item to the tooltip category. If the category did not existed, we will create this category for you automatically.

In tooltip importing records, you can ignore “tooltips category” row, then the imported tooltip record will not be assign to any tooltip category

7: We understand you need add more and more new tooltips in csv files and import these tooltips csv files, when you import the tooltips from csv files, our import module will detect duplicated tooltips terms and ingore these duplicated tooltip terms, so you can import tooltips safely
