I understand, I added this is because some times I found a advance theme was hook standard wordpress API but not return correctly data, so there are conflicts, for avoid the site messed up, I used this function. I understand you are use custom field instead of the excerpt filed, in the crrent time, we did not support tooltips in custom field, we will do a check of how to do this and include this feature in future versions, if you want to customize this section, in tooltips.php, you will find codes:

you can replace the_excerpt with your theme APIs — if they have.

Thanks for the message, I am happy to help you. 🙂 However you still not tell me “could you please tell me your steps of the upgrade”, so what I can do it guess what happened and offer my suggestion. I remember I replied your topic in other support forum — in your topic you told me you did not purchase pro version yet, and you are use our free version, so I believe the problem is not caused by upgrade to tooltips pro, actually, from tooltip free version upgrade to tooltips pro version should not caused this kind of problem because the core database is the same and there are no any codes to remove existed tooltips data in database. I guess maybe this is a plugin conflict or theme conflict, in this case, you need deactivate other plugins or choose another theme for example twentyfourteen — to ensure which plugin or theme caused the conflict, if you can reply me with detailed information just like I suggested at 8 Mar, it is better for understand the problem and offer suggestion, thanks, have a happy day. 🙂

Actually it is the standard wordpress editor, I believe in wordpress editor you should can add any content at the bottom of the tooltips content?

1: I upgrade the wordpress version from x.xx to y.yy
2: I upgraded plugins, include …….. and …..
3: I upgraded my theme, theme name is …., version from x.xx to y.yy
4: I upgraded tooltips from version x.xx to y.yy
…
