A few days ago, We reported that we received a heartwarming request from a WordPress tooltips user who expressed a strong desire for our plugin to support the display of tooltips in the admin control panel of the WordPress backend.

They told us, their team is a news website that recently onboarded several volunteers who are not familiar with the backend operations of WordPress or how to use their WordPress news plugin. Training these temporary workers has become quite challenging. They are now requesting the ability to display tooltips in the ADMIN control panel of WordPress. This would enable the webmaster to provide instructions, introduce features, and offer operational tips to administrators and editors. The tooltips would greatly assist new users and those unfamiliar with the system in better understanding and utilizing their WORDPRESS website. They are currently using the remarkable WordPress Tooltips plugin, which has already proven to be highly beneficial. This plugin provides fantastic pop-up text or image hints on the frontend, much to the delight of their readers. However, they are now hoping that the WordPress Tooltips plugin can also be extended to the backend of WordPress. Our wordpress tooltip developer downloaded the tooltip csv file, and did a test on our tooltip site, yes, we found we can not import records from the csv file into wordpress tooltips.  Then we read codes in our wordpress tooltip import module, carefully, but we can not find any bug in functions, finally, after many tests, we found the user’s csv file is not UTF-8 encoding, it is ANSI encoding, our wordpress tooltip plugin developer said, when working with csv files, it is important to ensure that the file encoding matches the encoding used in the code. Otherwise, you may encounter garbled text or have trouble recognize certain characters. If your code is using UTF-9 encoding, you need to make sure that the uploaded CSV file is also encoded in UTF-8. You can check the encoding of the file before uploading it. 🙂

How to convert your file to a UTF-8 encoded file?

To convert an ANSI-encoded file to a UTF-8 encoded file in Windows, you can use Notepad or any other text editor. For example, for ANSI-encoded file, here are steps :

1 Open notepad.

2 open the ANSI-encoded file in notepad

3 go to the file menu and select save as

4 in the save as type dropdown, choose “all files”

5 give the file a new name and add the “.csv” extension, for example, tt.csv

6 in the “Encoding” dropdown, select “UTF-8”

7 click the “save” button

Notepad will save the file using UTF-8 encoding. Note that if the file contains non-ASCII characters, they will be converted to multi-byte sequences instead of single bytes.

You can also use other tools like notepad++, visual studio code,etc, to convert ANSI-encoded file to a UTF-8. These tools provide more advanced options and better handing of different file type and character sets.

Hola, importé un archivo csv (UTF-8) que contiene texto en vietnamita y chino, y el sistema lo importó correctamente, pero todo el contenido se convirtió en término y no se introdujo nada en el contenido. En el archivo sample-category.csv, hay 3 campos: “Término de las infobulles”, “Contenido de las infobulles” y “Categoría de las infobulles”. El “Término de las infobulles” se importará como título de la infobulle, el “Contenido de las infobulles” se importará como contenido de la infobulle, y “Categoría de las infobulles” es el nombre de la categoría de la infobulle. Si agregas un nombre de categoría de infobulle para un registro de importación de infobulle, después de importar el elemento de la infobulle, lo asignaremos a la categoría de la infobulle. Si la categoría no existe, la crearemos automáticamente. En los registros de importación de infobulles, puedes ignorar la fila “Categoría de las infobulles”, y el registro de infobulle importado no se asignará a ninguna categoría de infobulle.

7: Entendemos que necesitas agregar cada vez más nuevas infobulles en archivos CSV y importar estos archivos CSV de infobulles. Cuando importes las infobulles desde archivos CSV, nuestro módulo de importación detectará los términos duplicados de las infobulles y los ignorará, para que puedas importar infobulles de manera segura.

Several years ago, an enthusiastic user of our amazing WordPress Tooltip plugin shared his experience using our WordPress glossary feature for language teaching purposes. He created a dictionary with many glossary terms and expressed his desire for each term to have its dedicated link. Furthermore, he wished for all these glossary terms, titles, content, and links to be listed in one glossary index page to improve SEO ranking. It was due to this valuable feedback that we designed and implemented the function of a glossary index page.

How did we design the wordpress glossary index page?

Based on the valuable feedback from that amazing WordPress Tooltip user, we developed the glossary index page as a Glossary Archive Page. When users install the WordPress Tooltip plugin, it automatically creates a page called “Glossary.”

By default, the WordPress glossary plugin enables the function of the glossary index page and uses the “Glossary” page as the default glossary index page.

In the Glossary Settings panel, users have the option to enable or disable the glossary index page because some users may require it while others may not.

Furthermore, in the glossary settings panel, the WordPress Glossary admin can find the option for “Glossary Index Page.” Here, the WordPress Glossary plugin lists all pages in a select box, allowing users to choose a page as the glossary index page. On the front-end, the glossary index page appears as a glossary archive page — the glossary index page looke like this.

 

How do we plan to improve the wordpress glossary index page?

We know seom users confused by this design — because the words “Glossary Index Page” , in their language and understanding, a “Glossary Index Page” is supposed to have all the functionality of a glossary — that is, the functionality of a glossary created with the glossary’s shortcode.

Sorry for the confusion, we will change the function like this way:

When a new user installs and activates the wordpress tooltip plugin for the first time, we will automatically create two pages, the first is “glossary” — we will automatically add the glossary shortcode to this page, so that this automatically created “glossary” page will have full glossary. We will put a link to the default glossary page at the top of the glossary settings panel, so that users can use glossary without any setup work.
